“My aunt died in August of 2019, after fighting a long battle with lymphoma. She, along with my dad and her other siblings, was born in poverty during the Great Depression. She had no children, so her nieces and nephews were very important to her, and a few of us were very close to her. My aunt had been holding her own for awhile against the disease, and she had wonderful doctors. But the disease was winning the battle, and we realized she needed home health care, as her two ‘unofficial caregiver nieces’ both lived out of town. We visited as frequently as we could, but we wanted her to stay in her home, so that she had comfort and familiarity in her surroundings. My cousin drove in just about weekly, bringing homemade goodies she knew my aunt would love. I lived two states away, so I ordered her groceries for online delivery, and took flights over to visit as often as I could. And hospice care came once a week, to check on her and see how she was doing. At a certain point, though, we all realized this wasn’t enough. Thankfully, the hospice nurse who came weekly knew of a wonderful, thoughtful caregiver who had a good group of people who worked for her. This very good caregiver was Caroline Feller. I can’t say enough good things about Caroline and the team she put together to care for my aunt in her last months of life. No one could have been kinder, and better equipped to handle situations as they arose through that spring and summer of 2019.”
